Guide topic 3: Long-term Personal care

Individuals with disabilities need different “supports” for their daily living.

A private health insurance only helps with “supports” (aka personal care) in a limited way, usually if:

  • the individual is a child, or
  • the individual has a limit need, due to an illness or surgery (such as rehabilitating them back to former functioning).

2 groups of people have needs that don’t fit these usual boundaries:

  • Individuals with permanent disabilities – so they will not be “rehabilitated”,
  • The elderly/geriatric population.

The programs discussed on this website are a government “support” for individuals who have needs above/beyond the insurance and welfare system.

The website is LIMITED to programs for individual with disabilities, not exploring geriatric resources.
