Texas’ Medicaid Waiver Interest lists

Before you worry about understanding Medicaid Waivers, get on the Interest Lists for them.
Then you will have 3-15 years to learn how they work.

You DO NOT need medical or diagnostic info to get on Interest lists. Just name, address, phone, birthday, & social security number.

1. CLASS MEDICAID WAIVER, MDCP MEDICAID WAIVER, and DBMD WAIVER

2. HCS MEDICAID WAIVER & TXHML MEDICAID WAIVER

Call the Local Intellectual and Developmental Disability Authority for your county:

  • Ask to get on the HCS interest list & Texas Home Living interest list
  • If in crisis, ask about IDD Crisis and Stabilization.
  • If in immediate urgent need (no time for a waiting list), ask about HCS Crisis Diversion
    • These spots are for individuals who are at risk of institutionalization. A person is at imminent risk of admission to an institution if one or more of the following exists:
      • loss or incapacity of the person’s primary caregiver;
      • loss of the person’s placement in a community residential facility;
      • the person exhibits repeated and severe behavior disturbances that jeopardize the person’s safety or current living arrangement, but does not need:
        • inpatient mental health treatment; or
        • care in a behavioral health facility, such as Texana Center’s Behavior Treatment and Training Facility or Bayes Achievement Center; or
      • the person is recommended for discharge from a state hospital and unable to return to family or community-based care.
